Chamomile Oatmeal Honey Face Mask

If you want to really nourish and hydrate your skin, try this chamomile oatmeal honey face mask. Its purpose is to soften the skin, reduce dryness, and reduce any
redness, inflammation, and even acne. I like to use it as a softening mask in the winter when my skin starts to get dry and blotchy from dry weather. Try using it three times a week for two weeks to get a softer, smoother, more evenly toned complexion.

The base of this face mask is oats, pulverized into a fine powder, which you can do in the coffee grinder or blender. If you are going to use this mask more than once, then pulverize a cup of rolled oats so you have plenty of oat powder ready to make your softening facials with. Why are oats so great for the skin? They have emollient properties, protecting and reinforcing skin tissue. Oats are also packed with nutrients that the skin can benefit from, including B vitamins.

Milk or cream is added to this chamomile oat and honey facial to give the mask consistency, to add more nutrients to soften the skin (that's why cream or whole milk is better — you get more of the beneficial fatty acids), and to brighten. Milk provides lactic acid, which is an alpha hydroxy acid, helping to promote cell renewal.

The raw honey is your anti-bacterial and super moisturizing ingredient in this homemade facial. It helps the skin lock in moisture, which is a must for dealing with seasonal dryness. Try this or other honey face masks regularly if you suffer from dry skin.

Chamomile essential oil is what makes this mask even more gentle and sweet. Chamomile calms and soothes with excellent anti-inflammatory properties. It will also act as a second fighter against bacteria.

To make this chamomile oatmeal honey face mask you will need:

  • 2 tablespoons of oat powder
  • 2 tablespoons of milk or cream
  • 1 tablespoon of raw honey
  • 4 drops of chamomile essential oil

Mix all of the ingredients in a bowl, adding more or less milk until you have a smooth paste for your facial. Open pores with a little warm water. Spread the mask over your skin and leave on for fifteen minutes. Rinse and don't forget to moisturize when you are done. For intense softness, try a night creme to help replenish even more moisture while you sleep.

Purifying Peppermint and Seaweed Facial for the Ultimate Skin Detox

This is the homemade face mask to use when doing a full beauty detox treatment. Whether you are juicing for a few days or simply taking a day to detox, do your skin a favor and use an epsom salt bath to sweat out impurities and use this at home seaweed facial to intensely detox the skin.

Seaweed is used in skin care for two main reasons. First it supplies a heavy dose of nutrients for the skin, from vitamin C to magnesium. Second, it has a detoxifying effect, helping the cells to release waste and replacing toxins with nutrients. I suggest mixing seaweed powder with a strong peppermint infusion. Peppermint is a natural diaphoretic, encouraging the release of toxins through the skin. It also has anti-bacterial properties.

To make this peppermint and seaweed facial you will need:

  • 1 tablespoon of seaweed powder, such as kelp powder
  • 1 tablespoon of strong peppermint tea, or enough to make a paste

First, brew your tea. If you have loose leaf peppermint, then I recommend brewing one quart of peppermint tea with three tablespoons of dried peppermint, otherwise use four bags of tea. Use one tablespoon of the tea for your mask and then add the remainder to a detox bath. Add the peppermint infusion and one cup of epsom salts to hot bath water. I like to soak in this peppermint detox bath while using this mask.

Otherwise, just make a strong infusion with one peppermint tea bag and one-half cup of boiling water. Steep for ten minutes and then use one tablespoon for the seaweed facial. Mix the peppermint with the powdered seaweed in a glass or ceramic bowl. Smear over your clean face. Do this while sitting in the bath, or simply put your feet up and relax for twenty minutes. If doing the full detox body treatment, rinse the mask and the heavy toxin release off in a cool shower. If just doing the mask you can use a cloth. After this purifying seaweed mask and detoxifying skin treatment you will feel refreshed, renewed, and ready for a peaceful, perfect night's sleep! Be sure to drink juice or water or even sip a cup of tea to re-hydrate.

White Clay and Lavender Face Mask for Sensitive Skin Types

If you have sensitive skin, but suffer from acne, then this is the best homemade
facial to use on a regular basis to help clear up pimples and improve your complexion. A white clay and lavender face mask is both softening and cleansing at the same time. White clay is a gentler version of green or Bentonite clay, offering the detoxifying and skin mineral benefits without all of the intensity. Lavender is the sensitive skin alternative to tea tree. It has an antiseptic action, without the irritation.

A white clay facial can be used regularly, even for people with combination and sensitive skin. It supplies the skin with important minerals, including silica to help form new collagen. It has a gentle detoxifying effect, pulling out impurities without increasing redness. Lavender is anti-bacterial, helping to fight the small microbes that like to disturb skin, leading to blemishes. It also has excellent anti-inflammatory properties and it helps to normalize and balance, a plus for combination skin. Lavender is cleansing and soothing enough that it is even an ideal ingredient in homemade skin care for rosacea. I like to mix these two ingredients with fresh cream for an extra nourishing, softening effect. If you have really sensitive skin, use goat's milk instead of cow's milk.

To make this white clay and lavender face mask you will need:

  • 1 tablespoon white clay
  • 1 tablespoon organic cream or milk
  • 3 drops lavender essential oil

Simply mix the clay and cream together to form a thick paste, adding more clay powder or more cream to get a nice consistency. Before adding the lavender, first cleanse the skin, rinsing with warm water to open pores. Add the drops of essential oil and then stir in with your fingertips. Apply the white clay mixture over your entire face. Leave on for up to ten minutes. Wash off by jumping in the shower or using a wet cloth. Moisturize the face after this mask. If you've never tried white clay before, try it on your skin. This is really a wonderful, softening, cleansing mask to use for all skin types, and it is easy to prepare.

Jojoba and Tea Tree Natural Face Mask for Pimples

Fukien Tea Tree flowerSo, you have pimples and want to get rid of them. Welcome to the ranks of millions who suffer from acne. There is no miracle cure for this skin condition, but there is a way to treat pimples — great skin care! This means not only cleansing, toning, and using powerful facials such as the jojoba and tea tree natural face mask for pimples, but it also means eating lots of natural whole foods and drinking lots of water.

Try this antiseptic, oil-balancing face mask two to three times a week until pimples have cleared up, drink plenty of fresh juices, water, herbal and green tea, and then seriously take a look at your acne problems. You may realize that you have more control over your complexion than you thought.

Anything with tea tree is great for treating acne. Tea tree is a natural antiseptic, destroying bacteria and keeping the skin clean. It is powerful, so use less than this face mask recipe calls for if it irritates the skin.

Jojoba oil is a great natural remedy for pimples. It is technically a wax ester, not an oil, and it has a similar composition to sebum, the skin's own oil. Putting it on the skin can help to balance an oily complexion. It also reduces the inflammation that comes with acne and of course keeps the skin soft and moisturized.

To make this natural face mask for pimples, you will need:

  • 2 tablespoons of jojoba oil
  • 2 tablespoons of raw honey
  • 4 drops of tea tree essential oil

Stir all ingredients in a bowl, adding the tea tree last. Wash the face and dry. Apply this pimple-eliminating face mask. Leave it on for ten minutes and then rinse the face clean.

Green Tea and Chocolate Face Mask for Antioxidant Power

What has more antioxidants than a cup of green tea? Cocoa powder. What has more
antioxidants than cocoa? Depending on the quality of your cocoa, not too much. Mix green tea and chocolate together and you not only have two of my favorite beverages, but a powerful blend of antioxidants that your skin will love. This green tea and chocolate face mask is also great for detoxifying the skin. Both ingredients help to stimulate circulation, helping to bring impurities to the surface to be removed during this facial treatment.

To make this tea and chocolate face mask you will need:

  • 3 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 3 tablespoons green tea
  • 1 teaspoon sweet almond oil

Mix the cocoa powder and green tea together until you have a nice paste. Add the sweet almond oil. Use more or less green tea to get the right consistency, a smooth, thick goo. I like to use hot tea for a more stimulating effect from the warmth, but it is not necessary. Be sure to use a high-quality, as unrefined as possible organic cocoa powder, not a hot chocolate mix! Smear over recently cleansed skin. Leave your mask on while you enjoy a cup of green tea or homemade cocoa. Wash off and moisturize. This is one of the easiest face masks to make, as well as one of the most potent when it comes to antioxidant activity for your skin.

Collagen-Boosting Egg and Cucumber Face Mask

If you want great skin then you want more collagen. Is there any way to support
collagen production with a homemade facial? There are myriad ways with nutrient-rich facials, one of the best being the egg and cucumber face mask. This facial combines some of the key ingredients for collagen production, including vitamin C, silica (if you use the cucumber skin) and the amino acid proline. Add some frankincense essential oil to promote cellular regeneration, and you have a great recipe for helping the body create new, gorgeous skin, no expensive pills or beauty supplies required.

Cucumber not only supplies vitamin C, silica, and even organic acids to help with collagen production and skin toning, but it is also cooling, soothing, and anti-inflammatory. Inflammation is something you do not want, not only is it a sign of too much free radical production and not enough antioxidants to balance the destructive process, it also in itself is putting a toll on your complexion. Let fresh cucumber reduce the inflammation, tighten pores, and help the skin produce more collagen, naturally.

A basic egg white mask is a staple beauty treatment. Why? Because as whipped egg white dries on your face it refines pores, tightens the skin, and increases circulation. Egg whites are also a source of amino acids, including proline. These amino acids are necessary for the formation of new collagen, which is a protein found in all connective tissue.

To make this egg and cucumber face mask for increased collagen production (among so many other beauty benefits) you will need:

  • 2 inches of fresh cucumber, with skin
  • 1 egg white
  • 2 drops of frankincense essential oil

Whip together the cucumber and egg whites in the blender on the lowest setting until you have a nice froth. Pour into a glass or ceramic bowl and add the frankincense. To really maximize the benefits of this homemade face mask, start by gently massaging your face to get the blood flowing. This will help the skin to absorb more nutrients. Rinse with warm water and then apply the mask. Leave on for fifteen minutes, rinse, and pat dry. Keep up the excellent skin care with a nutrient-rich moisturizing face lotion. Also, don't forget to really boost your diet with vitamin C and healthy sources of amino acids, such as eggs, whole grains, nuts, seeds, and legumes.

Sandalwood and Carrot Face Mask to Brighten and Rejuvenate

A lot of the best skin care creams contain vitamin A because it protects tissue, promotes regeneration, and acts as an antioxidant. To get this same skin repairing and protecting effect at home, try a homemade carrot face mask made with fresh carrot, raw honey, and rejuvenating, moisturizing sandalwood essential oil.

Carrot is excellent for the skin, whether you are dealing with acne, wrinkles, or both. It promotes skin repair and healing, and is absolutely essential when caring for sun-exposed skin (who doesn't go out in the sun? ). Rich in vitamin A and enzymes, this nourishing veggie is going to help brighten your complexion while also helping the skin overcome blemishes and regenerate to slow the inevitable skin aging process.

Mix carrot with honey and you get a face mask that will not only nourish and repair, but also moisturize. Honey is nature's sweet, sticky humectant. When used in skin care products and homemade recipes, it helps the skin hold in moisture, preventing dryness. Dry skin is prone to developing wrinkles and fine lines.

I also add a small amount of grape seed oil for more antioxidants for the skin as well as for this oil's great softening properties. Grape seed is easily absorbed by the skin and is a wonderful anti-aging treatment on its own. It also adds consistency to this carrot facial. Sandalwood essential oil is moisturizing and it has antiseptic properties. It also has a lovely woody smell when paired with earthy, sweet carrot.

To make this sandalwood and carrot face mask you will need:

  • 1 medium carrot, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon carrot juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon grape seed oil
  • 1 tablespoon raw honey
  • 2 drops of sandalwood essential oil

Mix all ingredients in the blender for thirty seconds. Do not worry if the carrot is not completely pureed, just break it down as much as you can with your blender. After cleansing the skin, take your time to rub the mask (it will be slightly slushy) into your skin with your fingertips, applying more and more of the carrot 'slush' to get as much of this vitamin-packed mixture into your pores as possible. Leave it on for twenty minutes. Rinse, dry, and put on your favorite anti-aging face lotion.

Nourishing Face Mask with Papaya and Avocado to Fortify Skin

Feed your face with skin nutrients, including antioxidants, skin softening fatty acids, and collagen-boosting vitamin C with this nourishing face mask. It utilizes two of the most nutrient-rich fruits that nature has to offer to improve your complexion and fight wrinkles. This is a great facial to use once a month to give skin a super fruit boost and to help protect it from free radical damage and skin aging.

Papaya is a powerhouse fruit for the skin. Its claim to skin health is the high vitamin A content. Vitamin A acts as an antioxidant and it is necessary for skin renewal. Topical vitamin A and getting enough of this nutrient in your diet is important for helping the skin recover from sun damage. I always make a fruit smoothie with papaya (with berries and banana and a little honey) when making this face mask. Papaya is also high in vitamin C, another antioxidant which also is needed for the production of new collagen. This tropical fruit is a source of fruit enzymes to loosen dead skin cells and promote renewal. Papaya is the ultimate face mask fruit for aging skin.

Combine papaya with avocado and you get an even more dynamic nutrient boost. Avocado contains vitamin C, as well as B vitamins which are important for healthy skin. Vitamin B5 in particular is important for skin healing and for reducing inflammation. It is also a source of fatty acids to nourish the skin and to reduce fine lines on the face, naturally. Just like with papaya, when I use avocado in this, or any other face mask recipe, I always eat the rest of the fruit to get the double internal, external dose of nutrients. I usually slice it and add it to a green salad.

To make this nourishing face mask you will need:

  • 1/2 of a ripe avocado, I usually use slightly less than one-half
  • 3 spoonfuls of ripe papaya
  • 1 teaspoon of olive oil
  • 2 drops of chamomile essential oil

Puree the fruit, oil, and essential oil in a blender to make a smooth, vitamin-packed paste. Cleanse the face with your facial cleanser and warm water. Dry slightly. Smear this fruit facial over your skin while it is still warm. Relax and sip your fresh fruit smoothie before wiping off and finishing the treatment with a nourishing face lotion.

The Best Homemade Face Mask for Blackheads — Clay, Lemon, and Rose

What is the best homemade face mask for blackheads? It is a face mask that will pull toxins, oil, and waste from the skin with a vengeance, while refining pores. A powerful, impurity-sucking clay mask, made with the natural astringent action of fresh lemon juice and rose is the ultimate in homemade facials for blackheads. Leave it on long enough and it will pull blockages from your pores, while then tightening the skin and reducing pore size so more blackheads are less likely to form.

It may seem like clay powder is just too basic to really reduce acne problems, but clay is one of the best solutions for skin problems, especially blackheads. First, clay is rich in minerals for the skin. I always use Bentonite clay, which is rich in silica to help form new collagen. Once it has a chance to dry on the skin, it pulls out dirt, dead skin cells, and anything else that is clogging pores and leading to blackheads and other blemishes. Using a clay mask is so strong, that after two masks, I had a small dark blemish that had been in my skin for months simply slide out with a pinch from my fingertip (although I don't recommend pinching the skin to remove blackheads as this can do more harm than good!).

Clay powder can be mixed with distilled water or apple cider vinegar, but when it comes to a strong astringent and refining and brightening the skin, go for lemon juice. Lemon will shrink pores, help the clay remove impurities, and promote skin renewal with alpha hydroxy acids. Lemon is not a good choice for sensitive skin. Also, be sure to use sunscreen after use if going outdoors. I suggest wearing this mask in the evening, not before you are about to go out and enjoy a sunny day. Alpha hydroxy acids and sun exposure do not mix! Rose essential oil acts as a secondary toner, and it also will calm the skin.

To make this homemade face mask for blackheads you will need:

  • 3 teaspoons of clay powder
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon of water
  • 3 drops of rose essential oil

Add the clay powder to a glass or ceramic bowl. Add the lemon, water, and rose oil and stir. Add more water as needed to make a paste. Prepare the face with warm water to open pores. A relaxing way to do this is to get a clean wash cloth wet with hot water. Place it over the face for one minute, this will feel wonderful. Very gently pat the face dry, it does not have to be completely dry. Smear the mask over your skin. Let it set for fifteen minutes. The mask will dry and the face will become really tight, but don't worry. This means it is working! Wash the face clean, dry, and then use a moisturizing face lotion to finalize this ultimate skin care treatment.

Homemade Winter Hydrating Face Mask with Honey and Sage

There are two things that you should do in the winter to relieve seasonal dry skin — drink lots of water and try this homemade hydrating face mask. During the winter my skin becomes extremely dry, which does not lead to a lovely, soft complexion. When the climate is arid it is time to give your skin a little extra moisturizing care. This winter facial combines the astringent action of sage with one of nature's best moisture protectors — honey. Round this mask off with some apricot kernel oil and you have a potent natural solution for dry skin in the winter.

Sage smells beautifully and is a great herb to use for roasting winter vegetables and holiday meats. It is also great for your skin, especially in the winter. Sage has astringent properties, acting to reduce pore size and to relieve itchy, dry skin. It also has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties, which helps if you have any acne in addition to the seasonal dryness. One important note, sage essential oil may be the powerhouse ingredient in this homemade hydrating face mask recipe, but it should be used with care. Only use a tiny amount, one to two drops. Sage should be avoided if pregnant, if you have high blood pressure, or epilepsy.

Honey, and I mean raw, organic honey, is loaded with nutrients for the skin. It is also naturally anti-bacterial and it helps the skin to hold in moisture, a must for a dry complexion. Apricot kernel oil is going to give this dynamic hydrating treatment another moisturizing angle by smoothing the skin and protecting against moisture loss.

To make this honey and sage face mask you will need:

  • 2 tablespoon of raw honey
  • 2 teaspoon of apricot kernel oil
  • 1 or 2 drops of sage essential oil

Whip all ingredients together until you have a super-softening, gooey, aromatic paste. Smear it over clean, dry skin with your fingertips. Leave it on for twenty minutes and then rinse clean with tepid water. Even though your skin feels soft and supple, still put on a moisturizing face lotion after the facial. Try this one out if you suffer from dry skin in the winter and let me know what you think.

Revitalizing Grape Face Mask for Aging Skin

From the antioxidant-rich, moisturizing grapeseed oil to the vitamin C packed fruit, grapes are one of the best foods to use for skin care, especially for aging skin. If you are thirty or over and have noticed that your complexion is starting to fade and could use a revitalizing boost, then this double grape mask is for you. It is hydrating, softening, and anti-aging with grapeseed oil, a handful of fresh grapes, and a dollop of raw honey for good measure.

Grapeseed oil is excellent for the skin both when consumed or used externally. Start making homemade salad dressing with this nutritional oil for your daily salad (a green salad a day is the way to keep skin problems away) and try this grape and grapeseed oil face mask once a month to revitalize, renew, and protect. I use it on the first of each month to plump up my skin.

Sweet, juicy grapes are really underestimated when it comes to skin care. They are a source of alpha hydroxy acids for skin renewal and vitamin C to boost collagen production. Honey adds consistency to this homemade anti-aging mask, as well as vitamins, minerals, and anti-bacterial properties.

To make this grape face mask you will need:

  • 1 tablespoon of grapeseed oil
  • 5 or 6 grapes, any color, skin on
  • 1 tablespoon of honey

Puree all of the ingredients in the blender to get a juicy, smooth face mask. Smear over the skin after washing the face and patting dry. To get the most out of this treatment, gently rub the mask into the skin while applying. Let it set for about ten minutes before rinsing off. Always use a moisturizing cream after using a face mask.
