Oats are the quintessential sensitive skin skin care ingredient. With emollient properties they help to keep skin smooth and soft. Oats are also calming, acting to reduce redness and inflammation. For a softening, protective face mask for dry, sensitive skin, look no further than your breakfast oatmeal. Grind the dried oats (or start with an organic oat powder if you have some) to make a fine powder. Mix with vitamin E and antioxidant rich olive oil and calming chamomile tea and you have a soothing, moisturizing facial in no time.
To make this homemade sensitive skin face mask, you will need:
Start by brewing a cup of chamomile tea. If you are allergic to ragweed, use lavender tea or rose water instead of the chamomile. Stir the oats, chamomile, and olive oil together. Cleanse the skin with a very gentle facial cleanser. Coat the face and neck with the oat face mask. Leave it on for five minutes. Gently dry and finish with your moisturizing facial cream.
When my skin really starts to act up with redness and dryness (which basically happens every autumn), I use this dry skin treatment once a week and I start drinking a cup of cleansing tea once a day, as well as lots of water. It is easy to forget to stay hydrated when the weather cools down — how much is this part of the problem with winter dry skin? Keep the water and herbal teas coming to keep your skin glowing!
