Seaweed and Witch Hazel Face Mask to Reduce Oil

For some people, excess sebum production can be one of the trials of life. Oily skin can lead to breakouts and a constant influx of pesky blemishes, even into adulthood. With a healthy diet (lots of water, fruits, veggies, whole grains, and green tea), good skin care habits, and an awesome face mask to reduce oil, you can help to balance and tone your complexion.

The key ingredients in this homemade facial are seaweed powder, such as kelp powder, and witch hazel. Seaweed is a natural detoxifier, helping to draw out impurities and waste, while at the same time infusing cells with sea minerals and vitamins. Witch hazel is a great astringent, reducing oil and toning the skin. You can even use pure distilled witch hazel in place of a commercial toner by dabbing the face with a cotton ball or cloth and the witch hazel after cleansing or after using a homemade facial. Jojoba oil also helps to balance oil production. A natural wax ester, which is remarkably close to the skin's own oil, jojoba sends the message to oil producing glands that there is no need to produce so much pore clogging sebum!

To make this homemade oil reducing face mask you will need:

  • 3 tablespoons seaweed powder
  • 3 tablespoons distilled witch hazel
  • 1 teaspoon jojoba oil

Open pores with a splash of warm water. Pat the face dry with a cotton cloth. Stir together the kelp, witch hazel, and jojoba and then smear over the face. Leave on for fifteen minutes and then rinse off with cool water.
